Reports run by department

Hi

We are required to produce balance sheet and profit & loss per state from July 2026. There used to be called "Category" function which enabled to run separate reports but I can't find it in AccountRight anymore. Could anyone help me which product we should choose, if AccountRight doesn't do it?

    Hi Miya2512,

Thanks for your post, and my apologies for the late response. You can still report separately by state in AccountRight using cost centre reports.

If you set up a cost centre for each state, you can run the Cost centre balance report and Cost centre profit and loss report from Reporting > Reports > Cost centre.

Just note that cost centres can only be created or edited in the desktop software, so that’s likely why you can’t find the old Category option in the browser. This article should help: Cost centre reports.

  • Hi Earl

    I have another question.

I created Cost Centre (NSW & VIC) and entered into Recurring transactions.

There were no problem with Spend Money/Receive Money transactions, but error message comes up when I try to save cost centre into Sales/purchase transactions.

Could you please explain what "ValidationException" Mean?

    Kind regards

    Hi Miya2512,

Thanks for the extra detail. If the cost centres are saving fine in Spend Money and Receive Money, but the error shows when you save them in Sales or Purchase transactions, this does line up with a ValidationException that can happen around recurring transactions. A workaround to try is:

    • Go to Setup > Preferences > System
    • Untick Warn if jobs are not assigned to all transactions
    • Click OK

Then try saving the Sales or Purchase transaction again. You can also use this help page as a reference: Error: ValidationException

If it still comes up after that, please reach out to our live chat support through our virtual assistant, MOCA, or submit a case via My Account and they’ll be able to help further.

    Regards,

    Sai
