Preview Pay Advice

Why is the preview pay advice different to the actual pay advice that is produced once you process the pay run? The preview pay advice does not contain YTD amounts and you can't apply any filters. We process payroll centrally but send the pay advice report to the various sites for checking. Not having filters on the preview means we can't split up the payroll or take out management whose pay we don't want to show to the people doing the checking. Not having YTD means you can't check whether someone has gone into negative leave balance. Once you process the pay run it generates the ATO report and if you need to make changes as a result of the review you have to delete or reverse the payment then reprocess. This is problematic as it creates the potential to introduce errors.

    Hi MickyH75

Thanks for laying out how you’re using it. I totally get why that’s a pain.

At the moment, Preview Pay Advice is really just a quick “this pay only” check, so it doesn’t show YTD figures or let you filter. That’s why it doesn’t match what you see on the final payslips, and why you can’t split it by site or hide management.

For now, the best workaround is to use the Payroll Activity and Payroll Register reports (export to Excel if you need) for your pre‑checks, then fix anything you spot with reversals and an STP update event if the pay’s already been processed.
