Double income statements

Hi

I have an employee of a business who has logged into mygov and has two income statements with exactly the same figures, one is tax ready, one is not tax ready. I know I only did the finalisation once.

I have spoken to the ATO and they tell me the six employees all have double income statements. I have been usign the same software for years, so not caused by changing software midstream, we do not use employee IDs so that has not changed or affected anything.

Have you heard of this before and how can I fix it so the can go ahead and do their tax returns.

thanx

Manola

This is odd, however in last week of June, MYOB's Payroll Reporting Centre was malfunctioning, sending duplicate information and MYOB had to shut it down to fix the issue. This might be what has caused this for you.

Also while using the same software, when users migrated to Phase 2, in earlier cases MYOB allocated new BMS IDs for Phase 2 - they stopped doing this recently - if this was the cause the 2 income statements would not have the same amounts.

You may need to get an employee with 2 income statements to check both statements to see what the BMS ID was on each statement - this might help identify cause and solution.

The BMS ID is different on the two statements however all the amounts are exactly the same on both.

Is there some way to retract the 'not ready' income statement or what would be the process to fix this issue.

    Hi MezIndustries

Firstly you will need to record both BMS ID's exactly as they are. You also need to work out which one you are now using. Get an employee to check 2024 Income Statement - hopefully there is only one.

Then you need to either zero out the YTD amounts for the unused BMS ID (if you have access to it), or lodge an Update Event with the new BMS ID, specifying the old BMS ID as the Previous BMS ID. You would need to check with MYOB moderators which of these approaches is easiest - MYOB does not seem to have a convenient process for either approach. I have helped someone do this a few weeks ago and it was cumbersome using MYOB's approach for Previous BMS ID - and even harder to find any documentation about this. In their case their serial number changed and this triggered a new BMS ID.

Also it is important to understand how this happened - perhaps the moderator can help with that as well.

    Regards

I only found out this happened from an employee. she has provided both income statements one shows tax ready, one not tax ready, each with a different BMS ID.

How do I know which one is the current one and how do I get on to a moderator as I have no idea how to fix this. if it was as easy as sending an update event I can do that, but I fear there may be more to it.

no serial number change, no changes at all. I have been looking after this client with the same file for many years.

    thanx

    Hi, MezIndustries

    Thanks for your post.

To clarify the situation, is your current subscription migrated from one subscription to another? If yes, you may need to access the old pay history (YTD) from the previous software, make it zero, send update event then finalise.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Best regards,

    Doreen

As stated in previous posts, I have not changed the software or migrated the software or anything else that would mean using a differnet BMS ID.

it is the same file I have been using for over 10years. I have only finalised this once.

neither MYOB nor the ATO have been able to help with this issue other than to continually give me the same advice, which I can not zero pays as there is no second payroll to zero.

the only advice I have been given that might work is to instruct the employee to not use the prefilled amounts that may come through on the tax return from the not tax ready income statement. the ato tell me I have to have the not tax ready one removed however no joy on how I do this.

    totally unacceptable MYOB

    Hi MezIndustries

You didn't answer Doreen_P question about subscription. While you may be using the same software, changing your subscription might also trigger a new BMS ID.

It is true, income statements are simply used for Pre-fill, they can be removed and ignored by the employee and not included in their income tax return.

If you want or need to remove the second income statements, and you can't get this fixed by MYOB, or the ATO, Namich might be able to help. Their software STP Creator has much more flexibility and gives users more control over what is actually sent to the ATO. It also allows for one off fixes such as these, without affecting ongoing reporting through MYOB. Numerous AR2023 users have had such problems fixed. They offer a temporary licence for one off fixes such as these, as well as paid remote support, so they can fix the issue for you.

Same subscription, nothing has changed other than credit card expiry date for payment and the attention to email address. however the subscription name, being the business name, has not been changed at all.,
