AccountRight – Why can I no longer back up my company file to my computer?

I am starting a new thread as the previous query about this is marked as resolved when the resolution is no longer available to us

We can no longer save the company file backups to a local computer. The software now seems to only allow backups to be stored in the cloud, which doesn’t suit business requirements. Especially since they are deleted after 6 months and we can not access them ourselves

For compliance and internal policy reasons, many businesses need to retain local backups - exactly as we have always done prior to this upgrade.

Please advise how we can continue saving backups locally?

We rely on local backups as part of our standard file management and audit processes.

Thanks

I too would prefer to do local back ups to my computer. Why was the option removed. It is our data, we should be able to back it up.

    Hi lisafin,

Thanks for starting a new thread, and I understand why this is important. Just to clarify, local/offline backups are still possible if you're using AccountRight Server Edition. In that version, you can create offline backups and save them to your computer, an external drive, or another secure location, then restore them later by following the steps in this help article: Backing up and restoring company files. If your file is online in the latest AccountRight PC Edition, offline backups aren't available there, and that version can only use online backups. Those online backups are stored in the cloud for 6 months. The same article also covers restore steps, including how to restore an offline backup to a library on your computer or network location.

    Regards,

    Sai

Hi Isaiah_C - as of yesterday, MYOB server edition tells us that it no longer has access to online files meaning we cannot backup offline.

How do we get access to download the online backup and store it ourselves?

This is OUR data and we should be able to choose if we want to have it stored online or offline.

Please talk to your team and have them make it so we can either download the online backup to store our own copies or let us have this back in the server edition again.

    Regards

    Jonathan

    Hi joffl81,

I can understand why that would be frustrating. With AccountRight Server Edition, online company files can still be opened and worked on, but the browser features that allow an online file to be downloaded back to the computer aren’t available in the same way as they are in PC Edition. That’s why, if the file is online, Server Edition may not give the option to download it for offline backup.

If you need a local copy of the file, you can use the help page here for guidance on creating an offline backup: Create an offline backup of your company file

    Regards,
    Earl

  • ATO requirements are usually that you need to keep infromation for at least 7 years and personnel informatino for much longer.  How can I do this if I cannot back the files up to my computer any more and the online files ar purged every 6 months?
