Back up offline is not available v2026.5

If you have a backup of this file you can open it in server edition as an option.

We also updated PC edition to have a 'open previous version' button now when you try and open a file.
You should be able to do this until we have released 2026.6 as a way of opening and using 2026.4

Mike, why should it be an Oversight in Premier?  If it is available in Premier now (leave it) and make this available in the Plus version, too.

Re-instate the offline back up feature!

I am listening, but its worth noting, that feedback and change takes time.
I would not be able to take the comments from the forum and in a matter of days be able to reverse a change or decision that has been made by MYOB.

I am working very closely with the product manager for AccountRight around the feedback for offline backups and we will be looking into possible solutions.

The removal of offline capability in AccountRight was a technical decision because the underlying technology has reached end of life and needed to be removed from our software. 
As such, I dont believe that we could reinstate offline backups or roll back the change to offline capability in AccountRight as a solution to customers concerns about data ownership and record keeping.

To your second point, if Premier is allowing you to still do an offline backup this would definitely be an oversight and I will raise this with the team to look into.

Did you know that the AccountRight Premier PC 2026.5 version currently allows backups offline so why can't AccountRight Plus PC 2026.5 version?  Or is this a temporary oversight?

Mike_MYOB​ Your answer doesn't address the fact that there is a security risk in storing the backup on the same server as the original data. This is not acceptable and holds a huge security risk. We don't accept that risk and want to be able to backup to a location of our own choosing, as do many other MYOB users, judging by the comments.

A critical failure (malicious or not) of your server, would be catastrophic. You have been hacked before, we lost all our staff data and we aren't willing to place all our eggs in one basket. No business should, when it comes to their accounting data. We aren't talking about the discontinued SE version of MYOB. We are talking about online users here. To be honest, if you lose all our data, you are facing a law suit and not just from our business. That's not something you should want to risk and I'm surprised that you are. 

In the past, if you lost all our data, we could restore it from our own backup, immediately (!!) and continue working.  Without the ability to store them in our own location, we will no longer have that option. Business interruption is a big issue and big dollars that would be claimed from you, in the event of a class action (hope you have good insurance). 

Thanks Mike. Would you please guide me to the report packs instructions so I can check it out for a file I will be canceling this month? We didn’t upgrade the file to 2026.5 and have redownloaded 2026.4 but when attempting to access MYOB simply states we must upgrade b4 we can open the file.

Hi Bronwyn, I will try and cover your questions here and also in your second post (here) with one response.

There is a distinction between a backup you already have. And then backups in the future.
If you already have an offline backup stored somewhere, then you can open this to view it in either AccountRight Server Edition, or in a version of AccountRight PC edition earlier that 2026.5.

Going forward, backups are done online. Customers can export their data using report packs from the browser, and then would have the data readily available with no need to consider restoring backups.
The other solution I have mentioned is that customers could request a server backup retrieval from MYOB for $49.95. As of today, if that backup was taken from a file operating in AccountRight 2026.6 or beyond, there would not be a way to open and view the backup, this is something that we are looking into.

For 7 year reporting purposes, customers are covered.

• Existing offline backup, can be opened in a software that still supports offline mode
• New online backups
  • While there is an active subscription, the full history of the file can be viewed via the browser, no backup needed. 
  • Before ending a subscription, use report packs to export your company data.
  • If an offline backup is requested from MYOB, this can be provided to customers, but cannot be viewed without a subscription

For the production company example, they can use report packs before they cancel. 
There is also the option for a low cost read only subscription that would be offered by the cancellations team or they could pay for the server backup retrieval for record keeping.

camvas_myob​ 100% agree.   I would just add that, if we need to restore a backup from a previous year, we want to do it immediately, not wait however long it takes MYOB to provide us with the copy. Then we need to restore to the current data, straight away, once we've finished accessing the old data. We definitely don't want to pay for something we can do ourselves (and have been for years)!

Keep the fight going - totally agreed - the offline capability and backups is the 'Elephant in the room' in this argument. 

There are a multitude of scenarios around an ATO audition that can happen at any time; or a company has a court case to fight and needs data back 15 years ( happened to me for a very long time client that predicated on a local govt agency assuming that records do not exist that far back and predicated their argument in court on this assumption)  - they got a nasty surprise when I found the data backup I kept for my client - opened a very old MYOB file and extracted the invoice for the argument) - my client did eventually win.   I digress a little but the argument is relevant - data backups and their responsibility should lie completely in the hands of whomever owns that data.

The argument does not change whether it are records for an potential ATO audit, a client court battle, a client's wish to get ISO 270001, SOC2 accreditation or whatever.

In fact, I believe it is a fundamental right for businesses to dictate where they want their data backed up to, a fundamental right that we should not need to debate; notwithstanding daily occurrences of businesses being hacked, that hold someone else's data - MYOB you are not immune.

Back again to make a comment on your post to Jaci 6 days ago.

My Clients, in the Film and Television industry, open a new Company to run a particular production (SPV). These SPVs only run for 12 - 24 months. Once the income tax return has been lodged the Company (SPV) cancels its MYOB subscription and is wound up. This does not stop the ATO calling for an audit in latter years, even if the Company is wound up.

Please advise what MYOB's answer to this dilemma is?
