MYOB offline being phased out

I Just received an email regarding the phasing out of the desktop library
I’m pretty disgusted that this is happening and having to have all files online and was told this would be happening mid June 2026 - not even the end of a financial year for an accounting program this is pretty pathetic.
Was told each file would be $ 35 per file
What happens to files that may have an audit and accounts that are needed for a 7 year period not to mention end of year journals for this current financial year.

I have been working with this program for 32years & not everyone wants their files online & in the cloud - let alone those who don't need payroll, use bank feeds or all the extra's that are in the program - not to mention those who live rurally with **bleep** internet

Very annoyed

Good luck! I hope you get satisfaction at the end of the day. I still have two medium sized clients running MYOB Classic V19.x because categories / cost centres has a major (and I mean major) bug that hasn't worked since ARL went live in 2013. This issue has been addressed with MYOB for 13 years now to no avail, simply ignored. Same issue with superannuation payments not recognising categories / cost centres. Don't understand why MYOB just can't address the system bug and fix it. But hey, that's another story for another day.

". You simply keep using it offline. If you are using MYOB Classic you would have a perpetual license. If this has been lost over the years then MYOB should come to the party."

bron, I wish!! Tiff the complaint handler said i didn't have a perpetual license despite paying over $15k since 2005 for what started in 2005....  They are predators wanting to print money for no service since Oct 2019....

Hi Peter PMUDIE , the sunflower is something I have learnt more about this year as MYOB has joined this initiative to create a workplace where people feel safe, respected and supported.
We have a press release about it here

This is focused around our workplaces and employees, but I would love to hear any ideas you might have about how we could consider applying this to our customers (please reach out via private message to talk further).

One idea I have, is that you could make the sunflower image your profile picture on the forum here as a starting point though.

  • The bit that annoys me most is that the only backup now lives on the same platform as the file. If anything goes wrong with the account or the subscription, the backup is stuck in exactly the same place. We got fed up enough to start building our own fix, an app that does scheduled full exports of the company file and attachments (via the official API, read only) into storage we control, plus locked snapshots at EOFY or BAS. It's at covlens.com/ledgervault if that helps anyone. Full disclosure, I'm one of the two people making it and we're not affiliated with MYOB in any way.

Thanks Mike, fair correction, and worth knowing. Let me put my point more precisely: the backups sit on separate infrastructure, but they're reachable only through the same account and subscription as the live file. The situations people in these threads are worried about, a lapsed or cancelled subscription, a locked account, closing a business and getting audited two years later, affect the file and the backup at the same time. As I understand it even the server backup retrieval needs an active subscription to view. That access coupling is the gap an independent copy in the customer's own storage covers, and it's the part I'd love to see MYOB solve natively one day.

Thanks mariushasan , I agree. The server backup for closed accounts needs a way to be viewed.
The AccountRight product manager is looking at options for this now and wants to have a solution as well.
I think I have replied to you in Reddit as well actually, just noticed the names are very similar. Sorry to double down but I want to try and get the right information in front of people where I can. Cheers, Mike

    Hi Mike_MYOB, mariushasan

Good relevant points that have been made before but succinctly and respectfully posted by mariushasan

Mike - Your reply is a big change from the rigid stance on MYOB's position you have been pushing for the last month -  is this a glimmer of hope coming our way regarding this aspect of the deprecation of offline opening.

Thank you - we are all ears.
