Hi JenSta2,
Appreciate for providing the error. What your IT team is saying is spot on: AccountRight currently exports reports in the older Excel 97–2003 format (.xls / .xlt) and a recent Microsoft/Office security change is now blocking those legacy formats via the Excel Trust Center.
Check Excel File Block settings (IT often needs to do this)
In Excel on one of the affected PCs:
- Go to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings…
- Click File Block Settings.
- Make sure “Excel 97–2003 Workbooks” and “Excel 97–2003 Templates” are not blocked for Open/Save (tick = blocked, clear = allowed).
- Click OK, restart Excel, then try the export again.
- If those options are greyed out, they’re being controlled by a group policy, so only your IT can change them

Hi Southern2018,
The error you’re running into is still coming from Excel’s Trust Center having a sulk. Since your IT team already can’t unblock those File Block settings for the older Excel 97–2003 format we use for exports, the best move is to have your IT reach out to Microsoft Support. This way, they can dig into why those options are locked in your environment and recommend the right tweak for your version of Office.
Cheers,
Doreen

Sorry Doreen, that is like passing the buck. Not all companies use IT teams, some of us, like many, are small businesses which was the original aim of Myob when it first began in Australia in 1991. Using a version of Excel that is over 10 years old is ridiculous, especially when MYOB constantly has updates.
As technology leaps forward, it is wise for any software platform to keep up with the changes. Updates seem redundant if it does not.

I have worked out if you have Excel open BEFORE you export the report, then the Excel exports work as per normal. I know this is not the correct option, but it works for now. Hope this helps.

Hi Earl
We have encountered this issue as well - cannot export to Excel. We discovered a work around that MYOB will export if you have a blank Excel file open when trying to export.
However, we have also noticed that the web version does not encounter this issue as it has obviously been updated to export in the modern version of excel. When will MYOB be updating the desk top version?

Hi MargB,
Appreciate you sharing that workaround. That's actually a clever find. You're spot on too, the browser version's had a few upgrades, while the desktop version can still be a bit old-school in that space. At this stage, we don't have a specific timeframe on when the desktop export will be brought in line. In the meantime, your workaround is a solid one, and using the browser version for exports is a great shout as well.

Sai
