Stapled fund lookups are becoming a compulsory act for a business to attempt when providing digital onboarding. This comes into effect 1 July 2026.
Flare is an MYOB owned business that powers onboarding for your MYOB clients. Flare will need to be authorised in the ATO Access Manager in order to attempt the stapled fund look up. If authorisation is not provided, businesses will need to perform a manual stapled fund look up which may increase the risk of payment delay for newly onboarded employees.
The business’ Principal Authority/Authorised Administrator can do this easily in the ATO Access Manager. Check out our support article for more information. Hope this clarifies things, feel free to reach out if you have further questions.

Whether Flare in an MYOB owned business or not, it should not require ATO access for Clients. These emails should not be sent out to unsuspecting clients. MYOB / Flare has been looking up superannuation funds until now. Why would the methodology change?

If authorised, Flare only accesses the information required to complete onboarding and stapled fund lookup processes. It operates within MYOB’s privacy framework and handles data in line with applicable legal obligations. However the option to complete stapled fund lookups manually via the ATO is available.
Ok well I’ll just stop digital onboarding. No way am I giving a 3rd party access to my ATO details
Helen, we shouldn't need to stop digital onboarding. MYOB just need to stop overreaching. I am having my tax accountant look at it more closely as the support notes we would only give them access to "Employees onboarding forms".
Hello I have been advised today if the Flare authorisation is not provided business will lose digital onboarding function altogether and will need to onboard employees manually (not just the manual stapled fund look up). I don't know how manual onboarding is possible these days. Alot of my businesses don't have Access Manager themselves, rely on their registered tax or bas agents.
Can you confirm digital onboarding function will still be available for business use even without the stapled fund lookup? Otherwise this is a function loss and some of my business

Thanks for checking in! There’s no need to stop digital onboarding. You can keep using the process you’ve got now, including doing stapled fund lookups manually if that’s what works best for the business. So while authorising Flare helps automate the stapled fund lookup during onboarding, not having that authorisation in place does not mean businesses have to stop onboarding employees altogether.
