Customer surcharging - online payments

In regard to the changes to surcharging on the 1st of October, because Myob have said that customers will not pay anymore surcharges and they will take the online payment fee straight from the customers invoice.  How will this work, will the invoice automatically balance, coding the online payment amount directly to fees or will there be a discrepancy left on each customers account.

I would be interested to know this in advance.

Thanks

Why is MYOB allowed to charge card fees if businesses are not?  MYOB is a business isn't it?

    Hi Sharon2311

Thanks for your question. It makes sense to want to understand how this will work before the change takes effect.

From 1 October 2026, the surcharge option will be automatically removed from new and existing invoices. Customers who pay an invoice on or after this date will pay the invoice amount only, without a separate surcharge. The Online Payments processing fee will still apply, but it will be deducted from the total payment you receive rather than added to the customer’s invoice.

You won’t need to update these settings yourself. For the full scope of the change and what to expect in MYOB, see:

    Hi Coastcomms

That’s a fair question. The change stops businesses adding a separate card surcharge to what customers pay. There is still a cost to process each payment, so MYOB’s Online Payments processing fee still applies. It’s deducted from the business’s payment rather than added to the customer’s invoice.
