Super Payments Duplicated

My client's super payments paid via Pay Super came out of their bank accounts twice.  They then skipped paying super for the next pay run so that the payments can 'catch up'  The offset worked perfectly for the employees on standard hours.  However, for their casual employees, this resulted in either an overpayment or an underpayment of their super.  Is there a workaround for this?  Ideally, I would like to net these variances against super payable on today's pay run.  Payroll is correct.

  • I spoke to myob support and made the following adjustments:

    • process a nil pay run to take up the super adjustments
    • submit the pay super, netting out the adjustments against this week's super
    • process another nil pay run to remove/reverse the super adjustments in step 1 so that YTD super is back to the same before the adjustments

Thank you Princess_R . I appreciate your input.  However, the YTD super total for all employees match the correct amount based on their gross wages so I can't do anything there.  I suppose I have to reach out to myob clearing house to see if I can make extra contribution for those that were underpaid and get refund for those that were overpaid.

    Hi Lw0905,

Thanks for clarifying. I wouldn’t recommend processing a temporary adjustment here. It’s best to leave today’s payroll and super unchanged, then make the adjustment in the next pay run. The super calculation itself is correct, so you’ll only need to update the super amount for the affected employee to ensure their YTD super total matches the correct amount based on their gross wages.

    Cheers,

    Princess

Would it work if put through the adjustments, net these adjustments against today's super payable amount and process Pay Super?  Once the pay super amounts have gone through, I reverse those adjustments so that the super already in the payroll remain unchanged.

Hi Doreen_P, thank you for your prompt reply.  I have worked out the variance on a spreadsheet for each affected employee.  However, if I process the adjustments as per the guide, it will affect the superannuation in the payroll. I don't want that as the super amount in the payroll is already correct.   With Pay Super, we are not able to vary or manually adjust the super amounts to be paid.

    Hi Lw0905,

I can see why this has been trickier for the casual employees. Skipping a whole super payment can offset neatly for employees on standard hours, but casual employees’ super changes with each pay, so it can leave an overpayment or underpayment. Since the payroll itself is correct, it’s best not to change the wages. Instead, calculate the variance for each affected employee and adjust the super amount in a current or future pay run:

    • Reduce the super amount by the excess for an overpayment.
    • Add the shortfall for an underpayment.
    • Check the resulting super amount before submitting the next payment through Pay Super.

This guide explains how to check and adjust superannuation: Checking and adjusting superannuation. If the variances still don’t look right after the adjustment, you can reach out to our support team via the Contact Us page so they can take a closer look.

    Cheers,

    Doreen
