it would be good if we could use the whole length of the NAME field for our product descriptions.

Hey Jacmus,
It isn't possible to increase the length of the field for item descriptions. This only allows you to enter up to 255 characters. I'd recommend posting on our MYOB AccounRight Ideas Exchange board so that the option to increase item description length will be considered for future enhancements.

Thank you Doreen. I find that when I insert a description in the NAME field, its only about 27 characters. and does not go to the end of the field - it stops about halfway.

Hi there Jacmus,
I've replicated your issue with the item description field, and it does allow me to enter 255 characters. If you're referring to the Name field from the Profile tab, the character limit that you're getting is normal. You can refer to the screenshot below.

Instead, you can enter 255 characters in the Description field from the Item Details tab.

Seems pretty archaic that we can't exceed the 255 character limit for a Description field. I get not every business would remotely need this many characters in a description, however having a limitation like this is absolutely ludicrous. SIMPLE LIMITATIONS like this are what makes paid users and subscribers migrate to other software and other platforms. I'm just trialling this software as am looking to move from Xero, and there's a lot of limitations I've been experiencing in general with this software in comparison to Xero, and how I use it. AND online chat support is useless both as I've experienced so far and as I've heard from many other businesses through my partner whom is an accountant with nearly 100 clients. PLUS the initial basic instructional videos I've gone to watch have been 8+years old and show workflows on extremely outdated UI's - REALLY!!!!!!?????? WHY!!!????
I work with a LOT of tech companies, and have done so professionally for almost 30 years. The fact that SIMPLE LIMITATIONS exist in ANY software is a sign of a brand / offering whose priorities are absolutely lacking in customer centricity and UX. These companies NEVER do well and are always being beaten badly by "disruptors" whom actually respond and listen to their users.
PLEASE can we have the character limit for Description fields increased, instead of me having to copy / paste full length Descriptions from a spreadsheet EVERY time I generate an invoice with this very common requirement (for my business and I'm sure many others)! - myvideoguy4 months agoMember

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. Great call out on the character limit. We’ve added this to our Ideas board so people can vote it up and help prove priority for the product team’s roadmap. In the meantime, you can put the full details in the “Notes to customer” field on the invoice, it supports much longer text so your customer still gets everything they need. For more info, our help page has the guides and support you might need. And aside from phone and chat, you can also create a support ticket in My Account and we’ll jump in to help.
