Secure Invoicing - Help pls.

I am now unable to send out Supplier invoices - MYOB is saying I need to upgrade to secure invoicing to email this invoice?  I completed the upgrade steps days ago - only because I had to - now awaiting MYOB to verify the information.  How long does this take?  How am I supposed to keep my business moving when I'm sitting on my hands now.  I do not want this feature nor do I want to offer it to my clients - anyone know how to get around this - I just want to switch the feature off & be able to send my invoices out as normal.  I've sent a support request but how long that could take ?

Im going to get through my current BAS and then start the process of biting the bullet and either moving to something else or getting ACCC advice and bringing it to their attention.

MYOB have not been transparent about why they are forcing this secure invoicing onto us. They are a service to provide invoicing and book keeping for my business. That's it. They are not a bank, they deduct a fee on a monthly basis from my nominated bank account, that's it.. I do not use any financial services through them nor do I wish to. My bank already have all the details required. I do understand that doing this will help them increase their earnings through extra charges. But it does nothing to help me except to increase my costs. In the meantime, bugs that have been raised with them for a number of years have not been addressed and we the customer are having to do work arounds or take extra steps to perform tasks. It seems that MYOB are not concerned about losing some customers in this process. This is what happens when a business gets to big. All we want is a fair go and some customer support would be nice along the way and some transparency about this secure invoicing that seems to be causing a lot of frustration and suspicion among its customers.

Hi pippypip , AndrewC2340 and all.
I understand that the comments are continuing to surface around this. And it is compounded by things like the wait time to reach the support team, get a response to a case and have the verification completed.
Including instances where customers are being restricted from emailing due to delays in completing verification.

I am absolutely staying across all of the feedback and sharing this internally with management.

In the meantime, a couple of points to address.
You are correct that MYOB is not a bank, but it does provide financial services. Regardless of this, invoicing is directly linked to banking and fraud across Australia and New Zealand.
When an invoice is sent to someone to pay, whether this is cash, card, bank transfer or other, it presents an opportunity for fraud to occur.
MYOB is seeking to improve our invoicing service to provide additional security to our customers and their customers in turn. Part of the improvement to Secure invoicing is combining this service with secure payments.

Our customers can of course choose to disable this feature if it is not desired, and if it kept on, the person receiving the invoice also has the choice whether to pay with card or bank transfer as well.

Our messaging back in November could have been better, and we are actively improving how we communicate this to customers as more are being included in this upgrade.

MYOB is continuing to improve this service and process, including hiring additional staff to improve our processing times to make sure that our secure invoice service and upgrade is beneficial for all.

        How about a straight answer!!

All the reply's from Admin and moderators just say that the feature can be disabled and then go on about why we should be keeping it on.

I and no doubt others would like to know that if we choose to disable this feature, will we still be able to send invoices through the MYOB email invoice option?  If not, then why am I seeing an increase in the monthly charge when you've taken away something that I had already been paying for?

Like others I have no intention of ever using MYOB financial services.

    Well thats it for me.

MYOB, youve obviously got what you want. - to get rid of customers.

This means the remaining users will have to carry the burden of keeping MYOB solvent.

Watch the subscription price rise and rise., and rise.

Im looking for alternatives. Any suggestions anyone?

Preferably with a myob data file import function.

Hey MYOB, I reckon youve got somewhere between 24 hours and 7 days to show us you are serious about supporting your customers and their needs. Otherwise what else can we assume? Its going to be more of the same as the last 5 years... No listensing whatsoever.

Its a watershed moment for you. Remember this like Commodore computers does.

Really though, I dont think this event needs to tell us what youre up to, I think most users already know that.

As will be demonstrated by the total lack of "meaningfull" response to this.

And the only meaningful response is...

"MYOB have decided to remove the need to use secure payment options with the understanding that users must accept the consequences of doing so. This will be implimented in the next update due in the next 24-48 hours.

We appologise for any inconvenience MYOB's decision to impliment a feature without an opt-out option and with little-to-no customer consultation prior to mandating this feature has caused. We will from now on with the extra staff on hand, react more efficiently and with renewed vigor to impliment what users actually want, rather than branching out at the expense of our core business. And like Google (only better), we will strive to do no evil."

    Take that to management.

    AC

Hi AndrewC2340 - this Community forum is owned and moderated by MYOB. I dont think it is unreasonable that information about our competitors is removed. You can definitely look at this as censorship, but I certainly feel I am being more than reasonable with the level of negative sentiment that is directly being expressed in this conversation thread in particular. I do not/will not silence customers when they are sharing feedback about changes such as this, but as always, there are reasonable guidelines you need to be mindful of. Thanks, Mike

The lack of response from MYOB is almost deafening!!

Moderators keep coming on this feed saying "You can turn off online payments...". They are missing the point. It's the verification process that really sucks and appears to be excessive. Then for MYOB to turn off the email function if you don't the the verification process is coercion.

Hi Greg_A , there are many replies from myself, Amanda and the moderation team throughout this thread and other posts in the Community Forum.
There are a lot of comments to scroll through now but I can assure you that we have responded many times.
You can also check out information about the change including FAQs on our website here
MYOB is not turning off the email function, but restricting the distribution (eg email) of invoices to verified customers to help reduce invoice fraud in Australia.
Full information on the link above. Regards, Mike

restricting the distribution (eg email) of invoices to VERIFIED customers - you lost me on that one.

Yes, MYOB has turned off the email function, that's not a restriction, it's OFF! - my bookkeeper has to print each invoice to a PDF and then use her email software to send it to our customers.

The issue is that there is not option to OPT OUT.

MYOB is mandating something that they believe is a benifit (and maybe it could be) but it smells like data mining and taking a cut of profit from its customer's sales as well as the already hefty monthly subscription.

Take away the need to do it and users can consider the benifits and weigh up the pros and cons.

Just get on it. The longer MYOB management ponder this situation and do nothing, the more they erode customer's trust and drive users away. And for what? A money grab? More barbed hooks into your customers that are already thinking you are on the nose?

Get over yourselves. Do you think you are not expendable.

Mike, I cant see why secure payments has to be directly linked to e invoicing. They are 2 totally separate things. Surely an option can be made available to users as other providers have done.

Fraud keeps getting mentioned and MYOB is playing policeman on this however why don't you let customers choose? Surely if this is going to be such a good system, then moving forward, as people queue up to get on board they will gladly offer the required info to have the fraud protection for online payments.

If a large company tells me that they require an e invoice, I could do that easily on your competitors app but to do it in MYOB I have to apply for secure payments! not cool! As far as I know, e invoicing is a safe way to send invoices as per below.

e-invoicing is considered a secure method of sending and receiving invoices as it utilizes a dedicated, secure network to exchange invoice data, significantly reducing the risk of fraud or scams compared to traditional paper or email-based invoices, especially when using a standardized system like Peppol in Australia; this network verifies the sender and recipient using their ABNs, ensuring invoices reach the intended business only

      Good morning ASH-807 and all.
The Secure Invoicing upgrade that is being discussed here and being released to MYOB customers in batches is an entirely different feature to e-invoicing.

e-invoicing was released in 2022 and is a B2B (business to business) invoicing and payment system. It is also not unique to MYOB.

Whereas Secure Invoicing is for any invoice issued using MYOB software. These invoices can be paid for by businesses, or individuals.
