Error message and MYOB Crashing

 hi

I am getting and error message System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception.  It is crashing myob and I am having to restart all the time.  It happened to me 5 times yesterday at a client using the current version of cloud myob accountright with payroll and today with myob accountright premier. is there any reason for this?  is it because of the latest upgrade from MYOB.

regards

Sandy

    Hi Crompton,

That error and the crashing issue definitely sounds inconvenient. This usually happens when AccountRight tries to open a document in the In Tray, but the PDF reader on your computer is either missing or corrupt.

To fix it, you can try setting a different PDF reader (like Microsoft Edge, Adobe Reader, or Chrome) as the default, or reinstall your current one if you'd prefer to keep using it. If you need a hand with this, we'd recommend getting in touch with an IT professional.

Here's a handy link on how to change your default programs in Windows: Change Default Apps in Windows - Microsoft Support.

    Regards,

    Sai

Interestingly what you are saying? because this happened at two different places I worked at in the last 2 days? I find it difficult to understand why it is now happening at every site?

    Hi Crompton

What Isaiah_C has pointed out is typically the root of the issue. If applying the suggested fix doesn’t resolve the error message and crashes, it’s a good idea to get in touch with our team directly. You can do this by creating a support ticket through the MyAccount window or by using our virtual assistant MOCA for live chat.

And to add to it, It was not when I was trying to open up and attachment. it is happening randomly. I have the error log if you want it.  It happened again an hour ago, this time the whole myob froze, grayed out and would not close, I had to end task.

I am also having this problem. It happened at least 5 times yesterday. Twice during a payrun and i lost all my work and had to re-do the entire pay run. So far today its crashed 3 times!

    Hi BeckMW,

That crashing mid-pay run could be a headache, especially when you've had to redo everything. The root cause of the error "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception" is usually tied to how AccountRight tries to open documents in the In Tray. If your computer's PDF reader is missing, corrupt or not set up properly, it can cause the software to crash— during tasks like pay runs where those documents might be accessed in the background. A quick fix that often does the trick is to set a different PDF reader (like Microsoft Edge, Adobe Reader or Chrome) as your default. If you're keen to stick with your current one, reinstalling it can also help clear up any gremlins.

Here's a link that walks you through changing default apps in Windows. If the crashing keeps happening even after that, definitely reach out to our team on Live Chat via our virtual assistant, MOCA, or by submitting a support case via MyAccount. They can take a closer look on the error and help get things back on track.

    Cheers,

    Doreen

As the original poster said, this hasnt happened when trying to open documents. It just happens randomly, as well as in the middle of a pay run. It has crashed 4 times already today. Its very frustrating.

    Hi BeckMW,

I hear that you're frustrated — I'd feel the same in your spot. That 'System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception' error typically pops up due to stuff like outdated software, environmental hiccups, corrupted files or cache that needs our team’s help to sort out. Hit up our team so they can dig deeper and figure out what’s really going on with those crashes. Make sure you have your diagnostic log error handy—it’ll speed things up.

    Cheers,

    Princess
