We have same issue. We are using MYOB email to send an Invoice to our customer.
This service we already pay to MYOB with monthly subscription fee. Now MYOB advise if we don't complete 'verification' process (mean if we don't give them bank direct debit authority) we no going to be able to use email to send that invoice.
Some comments above suggesting an option to opt out once you go through 'verification' but if you opt out you will automatically lose ability to email invoice to customer till MYOB will keep your Direct debit authority on their system. Customer Service confirmed to me today that there is no possibility to opt out!
If some businesses want to pay directly an Invoice they can go through verification process and give their bank card details. But forcing businesses to give to MYOB direct debit authority for something what we no going to use is not ok. I believe this 'security' is designed to collect $ % fee on Invoices and bring more money to MYOB.
The email that MYOB send to us states that there will be "no change to your base subscription price" BUT the fine print at the bottom of the email states that "fees will apply of $0.25 per transaction +1.8% of total invoice" if we choose to share invoices via email, copy a link or SMS directly from the MYOB platform.
Even those change are too excessive...not complies with the ban on excessive surcharges as 1.8% plus 0.25c per transaction is much higher than listed as acceptable which starts at 0.5%. As invoice is issue by us I am sure customers will complain about https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/pricing/card-surcharges
Well it is time to see Ombudsman opinion.
